Why All Avenues and Speech Avenue?
All Avenues and Speech Avenue is an organization that provides robust assessments, and effective speech and language therapy within the Great Toronto Area to enhance the quality of life of the people we support. We believe that communication is the foundation to a meaningful life, and the means to communicate is multifaceted. Communication can be learned through a history of interactions between the learner, their communication partners and environments.
Through a person-family-centered model, All Avenues and Speech Avenue views each person as a unique valued member in their family and society. With respect to each person’s preference and cultural needs, we collaborate between the client, their family members, and health care providers to ensure optimal care.
What is the difference between a Support Personnel and a Speech Language Pathologist?
Support personnel are speech assistants who works under the supervision of a Speech Pathologist. They have a diploma in Speech studies and experience as speech assistants, but do not have a master’s degree in Speech Science like Speech Pathologists have. It is simliar to doctors who prescribe an order, and nurses carries out those tasks, or dentists and dental assistants and dental hygienists. Support personnel can provide therapy only if there is a Speech pathologist (SLP) involved in the process.
