Teletherapy
Aside from in-home and in-clinic/office services, we also provide teletherapy!
Before beginning the use of telehealth, the patient’s supervising SLP must deem telehealth as clinically appropriate for the client’s specific needs, and the client and/or their family must give approval. Telehealth is not suitable for everyone.
Some benefits of telehealth include:
Expanded geographical areas serviced
Allows treatment options to a wider range of families in rural or underserved populations.
Lower costs
It is more cost-effective way to provide educational and therapeutic interventions compared to in home.
Consistency
It can provide consistency similar to in-person therapy. Sometimes in-person therapy presents barriers such as traffic, environmental concerns, scheduling, and more.
Additionally, teletherapy generally occurs in client’s natural environments (somewhere familiar to them, and of their choice), thus it can promote carry-over of functional skills. People who choose teletherapy can also receive treatment in the privacy of their own homes.
Flexibility
It also may reduce wait times for treatment because teletherapy allows smoother transitions compared to waiting in clinic or in home. In home or clinic therapy requires people getting into cars driving in home or to therapy, wait times in office, and more!
Teletherapy accommodates shorter and more frequent sessions if needed. For example a child may benefit from 30 minute sessions three times a week instead of two 45 minute sessions.
Promoting effective caregiver involvement and training
It’s not just a casual conversation or assigning homework. Like in home, teletherapy can provide comprehensive training because caregivers can also sit in and provide aid in therapy under the direction of the clinician.
Better public health
Teletherapy allows people to get treatment without the risk of spreading and/or getting infectious diseases.
